I have bad ball joints i believe. I initally thought it was a bushing somewhere, the anti-roll bar etc, so lubed all of these. However i came to the conclusion that it is probably ball joints, i get a sort-of squeaky/grinding noise when turning the wheel and going over a bump, or slowing down, speeding up.

I have booked this in for someone to have a look at it and then order required parts, my question is that is this safe to drive in this condition? The noise has been there for some time, i tryed to figure out what it was and then resistened worked it out.

I believe on one side the two rubber boots on the wheel bearing and the CV joint need doing as well, there is a slight hole in both of them, you can tell because it is blowing air when pushed in. I put some black duck tape on them to stop grease leaving/water entering untill replaced. Judging by the above stickey on ball joints having new boots put on wheel bearing and cv joint shouldn't up the bill that much, as you have easy access to them once ball joints removed?
