i gotta put a new starter on and i wanna know if youu HAVE to dissconect both battery cables because if i dissconect it ill lose all my settings on my head unit and it took me a whole day to get my system where i like it. PLEASE HELP!!!

Well I think you have to disconnect at least one, and you'll lose power to the radio with one gone anyway. Sorry. Just write down all the setting and it'll take you 10 mins to put them back. Or, if your radio has nice separate wiring, get a spare battery and hook it up to just your audio while you're doing the work.

Yes disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

Well ofcourse you want to disconnect the power to just incase it grounds against the vehicle when off the starter.
