I have an '04 Ex XLT 4WD. I was out of town and noticed the battery light flickering and saw my charge was draining. Well I had to get home and it was already around 6 p.m. I thought that if it was the alternator I would just have to check it when I got home. I bought a new battery and had it installed before heading home. Going down the interstate at 75 mph and the light which was still flickering at lower speed had gone off for the time being. Sure enough as I soon as I exited and was close to home running around 55-60 the light started flickering again. Well today I got a brand new 130 amp alternator from the parts place and installed it. Right after I install it and crank it up it sounds fine but the battery light was on and stayed on. I took it back to the parts place and they checked it with a multimeter. I was putting out a peak of around 14.15 amps and when off showed around a 0.5 amp draw which the parts guy said was about normal. Still the battery light is on. The only thing that I know could be a problem is we just two days ago got the Ex out of the shop. The dash was removed to fix air blender door issue and we had a power window worked on that quit on us. Does anyone have any idea what my problem may be. Everything appears to functioning fine. The only remaining question I have is how hot doe's an alternator get while running even while just idling? It seems really hot but that may just be heat transfer from the engine. Thanks ahead of time for any help.

Okay, my thought is a long shot, but a similar thing happened to my '02.
I suspect the battery got drained while at the shop. and the alternator is having a hard time charging a compromised battery.
I wound up having a new battey and a new (remanufactured) alternator installed.

Both battery and alternator are now brand new in case I wasn't clear in my post. The light is still on. This is why I'm stumped as to why I still have a problem. I hate to send it to the shop if I can fix it myself.

That happend to me before! There's two different model numbers of alternators that fit the 3rd gens, sorry I forgot the model numbers, but when I had the first one installed I had to take it back and get it swaped with the "other" model number and the light went away.

Do you remember what the difference was between the two in form or function? Maybe that would help me out.

Just had my alternator replaced, after me and my family were stranded when the truck died. Anyway, they called me and said that the alternator is installed and is charging fine but......the battery light is not going off. They said they have to do some additional troubleshooting but worst case is the computer is bad. Anyone have any clues? I read a few posts when I searched and I didn't come across anything that drastic resulting from the alternator puking out.

The repair shop called, turned out to be the wrong alternator. Actually, he said he had to install an OEM part because it had a relay inside that the aftermarket did not have. Once he put in the OEM all systems were fine. Cost out the door $246.75 not including the $35 for the tow.

Maybe you got the wrong alternator or battery lol
