Hi Everyone, I need some advice here on my 2001 Explorer. Recently my door ajar light came on on the dash. All my doors are shut including the back hatch and window. I checked and double checked and the light still stays on. Now another problem developed along with it. When i park my vehicle the lights on the mirror's are suppose to go out automatically after about 30 secs. They stay on and I have to turn off the dimmer switch to get them to go out. I have auto lights on my mirror, but i aslo had problems with the manual light switch on the left. It only runs my headlights when turned on. No dash , running or other lights. Can someone help me try to figure this out? Thanks a Bunch!!!!

First, thank you all for all the help over the years, this is the first time I have had to come back to the forum because the problem was not completely resolved. It started early today with the door ajar light and interior lights staying on. windows all worked, running board lights stayed on with vehicle off and doors closed. I read this thread, and went out to my '99 EB X armed with a can of WD40 and Permatex silicone spray lubricant, tried to lower all the windows and now the drivers rear would not go down, I decide to check the door switches anyway and worry about the window later. Process of elimination turns that the same drivers rear door is the culprit of my door ajar light. A few seconds into fogging every nook and cranny around that door latch I actually hear the switch click! I close and open the door a few times and viola! the light is working properly, but the window still is not working. from the front or rear controls all the others work properly. Also of note is that the automatic door locking ceased at the very same time the door ajar light came on. That system is now working again as well. So where do I go from here? Ground wire in rear door, relay, or something else???

with regard to wd40 & "door ajar" light being on - that seemed to work. All doors closed and opened made the "bell" sound. But then all of a sudden when I got into the drivers seat and closed the door all became fine again. Thanks for being here everyone. Once again, you have saved me a ton of money !!!

Try this
Open the doors one at a time-with the key turned on-

Whena door is opened, you'll hear a bell-

The malfunctioning door switch will not ring this bell. Once you have determined which door is malfunctioning-try this

I tried this, and it hasn't worked. My drivers side outside handle feels really flimsy and much looser then my other door handles. This part of the problem? What else do I do?

Theres a spring gone in your door latch assy. There is a mod on here that some have done, but I just replaced my assembly. This isnt related to your issue.

Do you hear the door chime on all 4 doors and the tail gate? If so, maybe look at the tailgate glass for closing.

Ah, I see, Well thank you for clarifying

I did the test, and the driver's side door is the only one that wouldn't ding when opened. I pretty much drenched the inside with wd40, and it seemed to work for a good 30 sec or so, but soon failed. It's dinging repeatedly whenever I drive, and it's getting super irritating

On the bright side, you know where the issue is now.
