I have a problem with my 97 5.0 - When it starts cold, there is a loud chirp like it has a belt prob or a bearing on one of the pullies going bad. The mech took the serp belt off and started it, and it still makes the chirp. Anyone have any ideas on what this could be? After it warms up the chirp will usually go away but not always.

Any help would be really appreciated!

hmm, my 95, 4.0 does that too, no wonder all that belt anti-slip stuff didnt work, interested to see what it might be, does it only happen when u first start it up then goes away?

What about the harmonic balancer? Could that be causing this chirp as well??

You have the 5.0--

I would bet it is the CMP drive unit-if the noise remains with serpentine belt removed---sorry.

CMP? Is that the Cam Position Sensor you meantioned earlier? Sorry, not familiar with CMP...

Yes.
Try the link again.I think it is better now that I edited it.
conversation about the sensor picks up in video thread.

problem gone

Again...sorry for the late post on this one but I was able to fix this issue by replacing the Camshaft Positioning Sensor...the auto shop was dumbfounded...cause I told them what the problem was and told them to fix it.

JT, you rock man - thank you for your help. Would be good to have a walk through on this one too.
