So, I've read a few of the other "belt squeal" threads and they're all similar to my problem: a squeak/squeal at start up and idle, remove and check the belt, check the pullies, etc. Either way, I'll start there today and remove the belt just to check every thing. But, here's the issue, I've already had to replace the idler pulley and the tensioner within the last couple years.

About two years ago the idler pulley decided to back out and make a break for it, so that was replaced, along with the belt. Exactly one year ago the tensioner pulley siezed up on me. This time I had to have it towed and the shop replaced the tensioner and belt.

How likely is it that one of these has gone out again?

Ah, thanks for the link. I'll definately check for that when I get the belt off. Hopefully the situation isn't too bad, I only have a few days to get this fixed...

Ok, Advance Auto has the Dorman unit on their website for $35.99 (or some thing like that), but they don't mention whether it's the whole package or just the synchronizer. It's the same 689103 part number that every one else has. Has any one ordered from them?

Make sure you have the correct Dorman part number for your year. Did a Dorman sychro swap on my 98 a year ago Sept. Good to go.
