The chrome bumpers & chrome trim on my 94 doesn't look in the best of shape. Lots of dirt & weathered. . What can I use to get the chrome back to new again? Just regular chome polish, or will something stronger work better? I tried to clay it when I clayed the truck this weekend, & that really didn't do anything for the chrome.

Thanks

Have you tried

Any of the Maguires or Black Magic products? Both are made for chromes wheels. They might work.
I have so much salt and dirt stuck to my rims it's disgusting. Nothing can even penetrate these substances latched onto my rims. Everyone told me I should trash the rims and get a new set. Seeing as I don't have $500-$600, and I don;t like it when people say I can't do something, I went to a specialty store for aluminum and metal products. The small bottle of cleaner was $10. The polishing kit with four brushes was $16. I've cleaned one half of one rim. It took about 40 minutes, but they look brand new! I'll post pics in the B&A section later.
I guess the point is: Get the OTC products, and if those don't work, go get the speacialty prodcuts. They're out there, and they work.

I saw an advertisement on TV when watching "HorsePower TV" the other day and they showed an attachment to go on a drill motor that buffs chrome and other things. This looked pretty good and I may get one and check it out. I have to watch for it again as I didn't get a phone number, name of the product, or a web address. Sorry, didn't have a pen handy and in my "old" age, just forgot. Please don't bet me....

You saw it too? I wish I could remember more about it, like how much it was and stuff. But it looked like it would work once or twice, but don't know how long it would last after that. Durability would be the big question.

I use Eagle One's chrome polish thingy. It's one of those cans with wads of cotton and polish in there. I got it from Wally World and it's a good thing to have.

Yeah, it was Flitz. I use Turtle Wax chrome polish and it works well. Comes in a small white bottle with red top. Available just about anywhere. Maybe like $3 or $4 for a bottle. Turtle Wax bug and tar remover removes tarnish and light rust spots too, so if you had any major cleaning to do that would be a good start.

Flitz works great; you can get small sample packages of it from lots of hardware stores. We had 'em all over at the True Value I worked at.

Its called flitz metal polish in a tube, paste is light blue in colour and it works brilliantly on chrome, I use it on my bumpers and the standard polished steel wheels on my 98 xlt, it is gentle, I find the best thing is to put on a layer and leave to soak for around a min, then rub on the marks and they will go in the end, may take time but they will go- I use it also to remove tar spots on paintwork. QVc is were I bought it years ago and 2 tubes have lasted me all this time as you dont need too much for great longlasting results.

Instead of going all out & buying a ton of Flitz I order a sample pack. I tried it out this weekend & it didn't do much for my chrome bumpers. It did clean them & took a few hard water spots out, but the bumpers still are VERY oxided. The grill still looks like it did. Maybe I needed that buffer thing they sell? Guess my trim being 11 years old is too much.

If there is any light rust on the crome bumpers. I used a brilow pad and lightly rub it with water on it. It may scratch it a little bit, but not noticeable.

make sure you clean your chrome before using the polishes. I use #0000 steel wool and some stuff call "goof off" to clean the dirt, wax build up and any other crap that gets in the tiny pits on old chrome. Then apply chrome polish.
