Greetings all. I am new here and hope you can answer a question:

I have a 95 XLT 4x4 with Goodyear Wrangler RT/S tires that are in need of replacement. I would like to go with BFG All-Terrain TAs. So what is the problem you ask? Questions I have, in order...

1. I have never had LT tires on the truck...will I see a remarkable difference in ride harshness between the P-rated Wrangler and the LT All-Terrains?

2. What about road noise difference?

3. Also, I have considered BFG Rugged Trails. I want maximum winter traction (see below)...would the Rugged Trails be fine for me?

4. What about tread wear compared to other tires??

A little about needs assessment. I have approx 45 mile one-way drive to work each day. And South Dakota winter driving can get interesting. While I don't do any serious off-roading, I will occasionally take it up or down a minimum maintenance road to "explore". I pull a 12 ft. pop-up camper during the warm months.

Basically, I am wondering if any of you have been in a similar purchasing/decision situation and had any experiences to share. Would the BFG All-Terrains be a good choice for me or should I shop around?

Thanks. It looks like you have a great forum here.

The BFG AT are an excellent tire. People who use them usually get around 50k miles on them or more. Also you might look into getting them siped, this will aid in winter traction. UDMSVT has them and can tell you more. Maybe he will chime in :D

I dont have them but ive always heard there excellent. Also my friend has them on a pathfinder and last winter in the blizzard that truck impressed me. His truck rides great with them and no noise.

I have them on my X. I LOVE THEM!! I just got them about 400 miles ago and have already taken them off-roading = Great. Have a 2 hour drive home from college = great low volume road noise. and I have heard that they are great winter tires and have awesome mileage.

I have a set of 31x10.50 AT's. They've got about 20k on 'em. I'd buy them again without hesitation. No road noise, unless you stick your head out of the window while you're rolling. Good street manners. Good traction, wet or dry. Not the best in the mud, but it's an all terrain tire, not a mud tire. Excellent in the snow. Buy them, and be happy. Don't buy the rugged trails.

BEST tire i have ever owned. i have 2 BFG ATs and 2 BFG AT KO's (new model, same tire). i have had them on for about 2k, and all 4 are siped. i took them in teh mud last weeknd and they were great, great on wet pavement, and on dry! i have yet to see the snow but soon enough! reviews say i can get 50k out of them , and that i intend to do. get them sipded though...i ran for a week without and its better with. aggressiive yet quiet with a stiff sidewall and great grip. looks awesome too!

Excellent tire. A bit noisier than a road tire, but it's benefits more than make up for it.

When I sold mine with 18000 miles they were only about 10% worn.

I'm on my 5th set of tires (2 sets of BFG A/T). Theyre great tires and wear well (40K +). After try the others, Im settled on the BFGs. However, my set of Boggers cant be beat for OFFROAD!:D

Get them. I have had them for almost 2 years now and love them. We got something rediculous like 63" of snow here last year. My X took it and asked old man witner if thats the best he could do.

how, where, and how much to get tires siped???

BFG A/T are not siped?

if you get them siped will it last the life of the tire or were down

bfg's have pretty good siping from the factory....but could be more. cost to have a shop do it is 10/tire and wil last till the tire has about 1/4-1/3 life left.

not to sound lke a moron, but what the heck does "siped" mean? i was looking at some BFG at's today and now i know my next tire. what s sipping and whats the point of it?

siping=slits in the rubber lugs. provide better traction.

this is what a siped BFG looks like:

by the looks of that it looks as though your tires would wear quicker. i 'm assuming that softens the tread, for like you said better grip.

actually, tyhey are supposed rto last longer this way. i'll know for sure in about 45k.

well from what i have seen the BFG AT's last appx 50k. just from what i know of tires (very little) softer tires last less. however this siping thing would be good for off road and snow/ice perhaps even rock clmbing. i dont know. i dont need tires for about 10k so i think i will be getting myself a set of these for christmas. 31x10.5 15 will fit on stock height right? how diff is that from a 235/75r15 i will either get 31's or go to a 265/75r15 wider IS better.

some first gens can do 31s stock and some cant...usually the 4drs can and the spports can but it depends on the indiv vehicle. 235/75/15s are about a 29"x8.8" tire, so significantly bigger. i can tell you my 32" bfgs did awesome in the mud.
