Hey, today I just purchased my new tires. They are 255/70R/15 BFG Radial T/A. I would have gotten the A/T ko's but I know the owner of the place and got a deal that I could not refuse. Does anyone have any experience with this tire. I have read this forum for a very long time and got the hint that BFG made quality tires. Oh yeah, would somebody please tell me that 265/70R/15 would have fit also. The guy that owned the shop or my dad didn't think so.(I am in High School) Even though I am paying for everything, he wouldn't even let me try it. Well Thanks for any help.

Justin,
I think you are a little confused. Some of the newer model owners(1995+) have been able to fit the 265/75 r16's on the Explorer with a little trimming of the plastic Fender Flare. It looks like some people are able to fit 31X10.5-15 on, and then some can't fit them. When i got my 265/75 r16's the guy at NTB said they would not fit, but I told him to put them on anyways, and today I have a sweet set of tires on my Explorer.

235/75 r15 = 28.9" Diameter(from Tire Calc, see my Signature)
265/70 r15 = 29.6" Diameter(from Tire Calc, see my Signature)
31X10.5r15 = 30.7" Diameter(from BFG)
265/75 r16 = 31.8" Diameter(from BFG)

So Cboug76, your telling me taht if I stepped up from my 235/75 R15's to 31x10.5, it would give me about 2 inches of lift? (not body, you know what i mean) Or does it not work that way?

Theoretically it would give you 1" of lift. Remember that 30.7 is the diameter, 15.35 on either side of the center of your tire.

Thanks for the help, even though I am still a little confused on the subject. So what you are trying to say is that 255 is the width of the tire and not the height.

justin's 94,

i have a set of identical tires on my 91, same size and type. they are very smooth riding and descent off road. the only problem is they didnt last very long. i think it was my fault for not keeping them properly aired up, but in no time the middle tread layer was wore down. if you keep the right level of air in the tire, i think you will really enjoy them.
