Big brakes... for the rear

Those piston sizes sound good, what do the pads look like? Are they a reasonable size, the Ranger should be easier on brakes.

Improving the rear brakes will improve the front wear rate, which should be done soon. These large brakes that I have definately do much more of the work than before. A 12-13" vented rear rotor and good caliper would help a bunch for upgraded fronts.

How close is the Explorer rear housing pattern compared to the F150 series? There are options for Lightnings etc, which would include good parking brakes. Regards,

Common F150/Explorer/FX4 Level II Ranger - all big bearing 8.8 axle housings have same flange. Problem with the F150 stuff is the 5x135mm bolt pattern. Could use claiper, but still need rotor.

So maybe a redrilled rotor with aftermarket kit... I need to see what size the stock caliper pistons are, that's the place to start. The calipers need to make more power than stock, the rotor needs to be larger also, plus a good parking brake.

BTW, the picture of your calipers/spindles looks like a bracket would be simple to make. The spindle half of my brackets would work for all 95-01 Explorers, you would just need enough metal outboard to locate the caliper holes. Regards
