My plan is to have a daily driver that won't get stuck in the BC.
What I want is to swap in a full width axle from a 3/4 ton (possibly Dodge). I also want two different sets of tires. One set of 36ers and a set of 31" street tires.
Imposible you say? Speedo and gearing would be wack you say? I remember my highschool bus driver having a high low axle. there was a knob he would pull out for high gear, and he would push it in for low gear. This was alegedly done in differential case. This type of axle will solve my trouble as long as I can get a locker and gears for it.
Also, I think I want air bags to raise and lower the truck with the different wheels.
It may be cheaper to buy another X and set it up for either dirt or pavement, and have two trucks. But i already have 5 Mazda RX7s, a motorcycle, and three bicycles. I am hooked up for transportation. And with my girlfriend's car there is no room left for more parking.

This is one idea I have to solve my problem. if anyone has any other suggestions i am willing to listen. My truck is getting new (to the truck) axles anyway, to keep it street happy I may have to tone down the upgrade. I am still getting two sets of tires because the knarly ones are too loud for everyday life, and the quiet ones will leave you spinning in the mud. I know it's a big project but I would like to atleast try to get the best of both worlds.
Please help. sorry for the length.

good luck with it...just remeber to post the pics, i think it will turn out bad ass.

I've heard that you can get a 2 speed rear end put in a superduty. So.. just swap those axles in.

which super duty? something I can find at pull a part?

i think yomie may be running a dodge 3/4 ton fron axle(i think).

Why not just sport 36 inch AT's on the street and 36 muds on the trails? You dont want some HUGE diff getting stuck on everything you see on the trails

Yeah, from the sounds of it, the diff you want to use will be huge = 36s are gonna be tiny and cause you to have very little clearance.

Skanlax - Yomie does not have a 3/4 ton front end...he's got a Heep d30 ;)
