Just got my car, which is an automatic '95 Eagle Talon TSi AWD...problem is this: I was driving along, and started going up a hill, and then the problem started. The boost guage shot all the way up to the top of where it goes, and the car started shuddering, and slowing down. I heard a noise from under the hood that sounded like PSS PS PSSSSSS PSSSSSSS like a sprinkler, but it was constant. I can deduce that this must be a problem with my turbo setup, but what? I have never owned a turbo before, so I have no idea what to do with this. It does NOT do this at lower boost, only when the guage goes above about 3/4. It's going to be a major pain, because I need this car for regular transportation. It has about 113,000 miles on it, if that helps. Any help is REALLY appreciated.

Sounds like the blow-off valve isn't working properly, or you have something torn in the boost line after the turbo.

BTW if you really need a reliable car, dont go with a turbocharged vehicle -- the higher pressures typically decreases the life-span of engine parts. And with the added turbo, thats more parts that could go wrong (which is what happened here I guess).

Sounds like more of a problem with your wastegate or boost line connected to it than anything else. Being that you were going up a hill and likely trying to accelerate then the engine was under load the the BOV would not have even needed to function. Had the BOV been malfunctioning at that point you would have seen a massive drop in boost instead of an increase. What you likely heard was your BOV working like crazy to vent the excess boost to the atmosphere due to the wastegate not being able to function properly.

Check your wastegate, any boost/vac lines attached to it and also your boost controller if you happen to have one in that car.

Those Talon's come stock with a turbo. Turbo cars have been proven to be very reliable even without any additional maintenance required.

Hmmm...I just changed over from regular oil to a fully synthetic, would that make a difference? :S

That would have no bearing on this situation.

They are less reliable if you have the boost turned up past stock. That is when the failures start.

Boost spike, like Rocket said sounds like a wastegate problem, not opening properly. Check all Vac lines and intake couplers, Tsi's have a recirc valve that vents back into the intake stream, pre-turbo unless someone has modded it someway.

Do you still get boost pressures when driving the car normally?

You did say you have an AWD right, were you in 3rd gear when this happened?

I was in 3rd or overdrive on the highway. Another thing, I think I might have fixed the problem. What I did was to check the hoses, and the one coming off of the throttle body had slipped down some, and it's like a braided mesh, so I pulled it back up and clamped it down. Has been running fine now, could this have caused the problem, or should I baby the turbo for now?

sounds as if you were loosing presure out of a small diameter line, like a small line came loose, sounds like that may have been your problem. A loose connection and high boost spike could blow it off.

Be light in 3rd gear in thoes AWD cars, 3rd is the weak link in thoes tranny's and once it goes so does everything else in the tranny.

My Cousin has a '95 GSX AWD with wayy too much money into it, mid 10 sec. car
