Just put a deposit down on a 97 5.0 Exp. Looks to be mint with only 67k miles, running boards, sunroof, CD, Decent GoodYear tires, Dark Blue w/ Tan Leather, no dents or scratches. Got them down to $7,900 out the door. Sticker on the lot was $11,900. Did I swing a good deal?

What should I check? I will be going 4hrs one way to look at it and I don't know any of the local mechanics, so I will have to go with my own know-how on this one.

Thanks Guys!!

Make sure the A/C and Heat work properly in ALL positions of the dial (or all temps if ATC).

The drivetrain is usually pretty problem free. Just check all the fluids to make sure it wasn't abused. And the blend door like Robb said. Make sure the rear interior door handles work! :D Uhmm... That's about all I can think of.

Nice job.. sounds like a great deal.

So the heater/AC control flap must be a common problem?

Any real need to take a compression tool with me?

Thanks for the reassurance.
I am so tight that I think I squeek when I walk. So parting with $8,000 is hard for me to do w/out the reassurance that it isn't a bad move.

I dont think you'll need a compression tool to determine if the motor runs good or not. Just check for a nice smoooth idle and smooth power delievry when driving. It would be really tough to damage a 5.0 Explorer with only 67k on it.
