LOL whatever file you're keeping your costs in, delete it :)

scary how fast it adds up huh?

Well, adding everything up, I had a major reality check last night. And it bounced. :)

I'm not going to give this up, its just going to be a long, slow process. I may not have much of any more money to spend until Dec of this year. What stinks about that, everything is costing more and more everyday.

I've done some reading, Found Redranger4.0's build thread- not much build there :p: but some good info and links to more info and builds.

I looked at Michael's build, I really like the passenger side upper link mount, that will save me some time and trouble and help with height since I don't have to truss over the differential housing. I was already contemplating the transmission crossmember / upper link mount, I may or may not be able to do that because of my massive exhaust system. Of course that can be reworked also. Moving the upper link to the passenger side will eliminate the fuel line clearance issues that rockranger is dealing with.

I have located a FW D44 which may contain 4.10's. I think I can get the whole axle, or maybe just the gears, but for free or darn near it.

Let's talk lockers/limited slips for a minute: I was thinking about a spool, but I think it may be too coarse for my needs. I was looking at a L/S Positrack unit for a more economical and more forgiving front differential, but for not that much more, I can use a Detroit posi/locker thing. Thoughts?

Thanks, thatisall ;)

Will the LS unit interchange from ANY other axle? Doubt it but its a thought none the less.

I love my Detroit Truetrac L/S. Can't say enough good things about it.

I remember reading about you liking yours- I may go that route.

I've read you can trick it into a full lock with brake application?

Yes, and that's the case with all limited slips. RangerX used to have L/S in front and rear, but I can't remember what kind they were. I want to say Torsen? I'm pretty sure they were cheaper than the Trac-Loc and performs really well.

EDIT: http://www.torsen.com/products/T-2.htm

EDIT AGAIN: He had Trac-Lok.

Do a radius arm set up like Jeff's. You can remove the top link on the right side and get tons of flex. I would do mine like this but I have cast in wedges.

Allrigthy a new development- I acquired a 91 Explorer today. It will be the victim of the SAS rather than the Mounty. I am going to chop the back off, do half doors, a roll cage 4.88's 35's, sliders, bumpers etc. This will be a trailer trail rig, though I can probably get by with driving it around here on the street.

Its two tone maroon and silver, 4x4 auto, got some cancer, but it makes it easier to not worry about the body.

I'll get some pictures soon and probably start a new thread.

The mounty will do tow rig/ recovery duty until I can get a full size truck.

:bounce:

I really wanted to do the low lift SAS, but I really want to do some relatively hard stuff and not having to worry about the body will be a big plus. That and this build will likely cost less- looks won't be a high priority, so cheaper is better.

I'm ready to start in on this one!
