How hard would it be to convert a 76eb axle to high pinion? I assume just have to get ahold of a 78-79 front end and have them switched or what? Would it be worth the hastle?

It would be easier to get a high pinion axle and have it cut down, if you want an EB width axle. Otherwise, you are looking at buying two axles, cutting them both up, and retubing the high pinion pig with the EB tubes. Not at all worth the time or trouble. And it would cost you quite a bit as well.

Ok.. I was afraid it wouldn't be that easy.. Will the mounting points of an eb axle and the cut down fullsize be the same if I decided to go with the eb for now and wanted high pinion later? Also, would you suggest goin to a 9in rear end or sticking with the 8.8 and changing the lug pattern?

What I would suggest is that you do your own research and decide what would be best for you.
The mounting points would be close enough to the same that a cut down high pinion will fit right in. Either option is good for the rear, but since you already have the 8.8, and it is not much weaker than the 9, I would (and did) keep it and change it's bolt pattern.

I already have a 76 eb.. Not sure if the 9 is big bearing or little bearing but I figure its stronger than the 8.8 either way? I was thinking of keeping the 8.8 and swapping in rear antilock from an earlier explorer though.. probably not worth the time on that one though. As for the front, if their the same mouting points once the fullsize is cut down then I'll deffinitly go with the eb until the lp becomes a problem.. Thanks for the info.. :)

your sas build

i was reading about your build in the sas registry, did u se stock bronco radius arms and radius arm brackets?

Do you know any company that does the axle shortening (cutting) service in the northeast. More preferrable in NY state near by NJ and Long Island.

(Seems like Dutchman is only available in the west coast.)

i know this post is very old but if possible could i see a better picture of what you did to the transmission crossmember. i am lookin at doin a very similar swap as this

Man I am glad someone posted up on this and brought it back to the top! I just got most of what I need for the SAS ( someone decided they weren't going that route). I'm in the research phase and remembered this post from a looong time ago, had a lot of great info. How does that tranny crossmemeber look anyway?

Sorry, didn't see these last couple posts. Let me get home at take a picture of the crossmember, though I think that I've had it re-done since I put the 700r4 in there.

i did the same axle but a used long arms for the 90s 150 and built the ends
