blacking out badges/emblems

Ok, my next project is to black out the emblems. Since my car's color theme is black and silver, i figured its appropriate.

My question is, since I can't find any retailer online or on ebay that sells them pre-painted w/ adhesive, how can I put them back on after I take them off?

I figured if i do it clean enough, there might be enough adhesive left over to restick, but I just want to make sure so I don't half-ass this project.

I peeled off the blue inserts and left them chrome.

Bonded them on with clear silicone. Worked great!

Doesnt matter how well you take them off, re-using adhesive is not a good option.
If you have a stock grille, I would use silicone, good bond and easy to take off again if needed.

When I did my grille badge, I used a nut to work a thread onto the 2 main pins and filed down the middle pin. Then just bolted it on. This works great if you have a mesh grille, may work with a billet grille if you had the right washers, but wont work for the stock grille.

One other option, buy a new replacement badge ($15) and custom color it. Might be the way to go if your emblem has a few nicks and you want it looking fresh.

Tips for custom coloring
- dont forget to use etch primer
- before you pour the resin, make sure the emblem is sitting perfectly level
- a dust free 'still' room is best for curing

Just an option but you can get rolls of 3m weatherproof auto double sided tape on ebay. They come in different thickness and can be foam backed or not $4-$5. Or if your feeling rich you could buy new badges. laquer thinner is good for removing adhesive residue on metal but is probably to strong for plastic, eucalyptus oil can be used as a milder solvent that wont f*** the emblem.

tape some newspaper around them and then spraybomb them. thats what i did with mine. you never even have to remove them from your truck.
