I went thur 2 dorman units (604-217) for automatic temperature control. Both would only work for a few minutes. I saw a review saying that dorman didn't work on a 95 auto temp control. So I ordered the motorcraft actuator (YH-1758) and it works great with no problems on my 97 with automatic temperature control. Save your self the trouble, start with motorcraft.
My original problem was the actuator was clinking, had broken gear.

Yeah I'm getting leery of anything Doorman that is more complex than basic hardware. Then again I'm still glad they try to provide affordable parts support for older vehicles.

There door lock actuators and third tail light kit seem to work ok, but there front drives haft cv joint kit would only last a few months until the boot split again. Ford replacement shaft still going good after 5 years.

Besides better build quality of OE parts, another reason to pay premium pricing is a perfect fit. Dorman/Help, not so much.
