I have a 00 Explorer XLT, 19745 miles, with the V6 SOHC engine. Today I turned on to a highway and started normal acceleration, at about 25-30MPH engine sounded like a thrashing machine, lost all power and it would hardly run. Pulled over stopped and shut down asap. There was a line of oil starting right after I turned and a spot, looked-smelled like engine oil, 10-15 inches wide under the engine toward the rear on the drivers side. Checked oil and there was still almost normal level in the pan. I had it towed to the selling dealer and of course will be Monday before I talk to the service dept. Any ideas what happened???? I would appreciate any imput.
Thanks

I would think that if you had let the engine sit for a moment and then checked the dipstick after cleaning all the oil off of it, it would show a loss.

Had you been driving around normally, and this noise started for no reason as you accelerated onto a highway? Sounds very strange. Sounds like you need a new engine. At least it won't cost you anything.

OUCH!!!! Sounds like something went thru the pan or the block. Whatever it is, I bet Ford's going to be installing a new motor on them. Thank God for the warranty!!. Might have thrown a rod or something. I don't think the tensioner recall problem would have tossed pieces thru the pan, but I could be wrong.

Good Luck!!

Just got a call from the dealer the engine threw a rod through the pan. They are ordering a new engine which should be here Friday.
Bay Ford is a small dealership but they sure have been responsive, a very good dealer.
Thanks for your comments.
