I been told that motor's timing chain has slipped. My truck started making a weird noise and horrible engine compression. My valve covers were also cracked, so I was lsoing a little oil. While driving it to the parts store to purchase some more covers the motor locked up. I need to know if the motor is a ZERO tolerance motor? Is it easier to repair or replace the motor if the block is not damaged?

It is a zero tolerance. While it is possible to repair, the extensive list of special tools makes it uneconomical.
The timing chain issue is not uncommon, so a used engine is a gamble. I would replace it with a re manufactured engine if you can swing it

Thanks for the information on the zero tolerance.

hey, welcome fellow detroiter. . .
I've come across a few JY with motors in the area, might find a low miles one for a reasonable price.

Just wanted to say thanks alot. I will make some phone calls...
