new brush guard finished

I have been working on this thing in shop class at school all year so im really exited to have it finished and mounted now.
pics!

in the second pic it looks like it isnt mounted strait but it actually is, the camera angle makes it look off. the lower mounting tabs were machined to be wider so that it was adjustable before i drilled the upper holes. the lowers use the stock bumper bolts' holes. there is 1/2" flat steel around the edges of the side plates to make them appear wider without adding much more weight.

yea well it was the best option at the time, the way its built, if i ever want to, i can built a custom bumper OFF OF the brush guard so my options are open, atm its more for looks.

also shackles wouldnt come until probably next year or at least later in the school year, next project is custom roof basket.

no overdrive on transmission, going to get it fixed tomorow, local transmission guy thinks its a vacuum modulator an dthey are cheap so at least i sorta lucked out there.

just felt like posting a couple recent pics, got cb wired up mostly, got my lights on, rims on, and a 12v power outlet splitter wired up.

i have to repaint the brush guard next spring, the ONE time i didnt use primer and the paint of course does not stick well. oh well, i like painting stuff anyway still working on roof basket in shop class so that will be a nice addition to the truck.'


ps. those jeep rims do rub in front at full lock, i think the backspacing is like 1/2" off, just in case anyone considered getting some. they work okay but it gets annoying with the minor rub, im planning to get sme gloss black crager soft 8 15 or 16" rims. these jeep rims are also a bit rusted inside so one leaks verrryy slowly, like 5psi/month.

found a bug guard for 6 bucks at local junk yard.

also im about 80% finished the new roof rack cross bars and basket. next project after this is a hitch mounted swing down tire carrier.

damn look at all that stupid calcium and dirt... car washes need to be cheaper...

oh and also i got stuck up on a woods trail the other day and apparently the truck doesnt go into 4 low anymore.. not sure why but that i guess will come after i fix the exhaust trans alignment and get the load adjusting rear shocks. (need new shocks for inspection anyway might as well get good ones that will fix the rear end sag and also hold up the extra wieght from having the swing down tire carrier i plan to build after the roof basket is done.)

small update & lift plans

i got bored and figured i would go take some pics of the recently wired aux power outlets and CB, the polugs i got from walmart and seem to work well, but the plastic i screwed them to bends a bit when you try to pull a charger out, i mainly got these for ease of install when i get the blue under-dash lights i have been looking at, also the stock lighter is at an angle where some chargers dont fit well.
the CB mount is custom (not very pretty but it works well) I cut it out of some sheet metal i had been using last gfall for rocker panel work, its galvanized, just two screws going into the black part of the cupholder which i got from the junkyard, it holds in place very well, i was going to use bolts to attach the cb to it, but i didnt know what kind to use and zip ties are cheap and plentiful haha. the antenna is just a cheapy walmart one that i plan to replace at some point.

outlets:

CB: (6 bucks at a yard sale, some sections of the channel display dont work) (ogh and ignore the ugly wires going all over the place, at some point i will run them under the carpet)

CB mount: when its warmer oyut ill pop this out and paint it black so it is less noticable.

oh and also, i may have mentioned before but hopefully soon (after inspection, before alignment) i will be building a 2" lift kit for the truck, 2" spacers in front WITH 2" axle pivot drop brackets to make it more alignable, (and have less wear on u joint etc) and i am still looking into longer radius arms for some flex. also new oem coil springs are cheap so those will go on the list as well.

rear end will hopefully be f150 leafs and i still need to figure out if i can get longer load adjust shocks for the lift, i dont want to destroy them by overstretching them while driving. also after this i might look into rear swaybar quick disconnects.

got permission to build a lift kit!

this post was discussing lift plans that have changed since, was going to do a full fabricated 2" lift but i have decided instead to go with a 1.5" lift from what i have now, half inch in front from new coil springs (stock size) with RA bushings as spacers for 1" more, war.153 type shackles in back to fix the sag, then monroe load adjusts for another inch-1.5". this all should be enough for 31" tires with no rubbing or at least very little.

edit: update, roof rack is finished, might post a new thread on it so that it could be easier to find. wont have any pics till at least monday and maybe tuesday, since it is at school and i wont be able to take the truck over there until then.

i got bored and decided to finally see the flex i have stock.

i would have been able to get farther up but the snowbank kept collapsing under the tire... oh well it was still fun
it deffinitely makes the tires look small though, guess imma have to hurry up with the 31's lol. and i got to finally see ust how much flex i can get stock right now, i doubt it would go more than another 2 inches even if the snowbank hadnt collapsed. ...really makes my tires look small tho...lol

big thanks to [MENTION=62]Maniak[/MENTION], who helped me with figuring out the mounting setup to use the factory roof rails, was very helpful in explaining to me how they worked and what he used on his rack, so thanks Maniak!

the kind of rough paint on it is because i did the first coats of primer and paint with brush on enamel, since its what we had at the shop, and the crap brushes i had were terrible, but oh well at least its thick paint and it looks good to me anyway. sturdy as hell too which is nice.

i made a little (large) mistake when i cut the pieces for the top horizontal pieces (top edge) and made the top about an inch-1.5" narrower than the bottom so i used it to make the sides taper in some, i think it looks even better that way and it might help hold things in better so im all good with it.

shackles next for my truck, 1.5" longer than stock to go along with the monroe load adjust shocks im saving up for. sorry dom my shop teacher wouldnt let me build a second set, he doesnt like us giving away or selling what we build in class and he doesnt even really like that i am doing my own shackles haha. then after that i will get the RA bushings for coil spacers in front to even it back out some and i will be set for the tire carrier if i have enough time left in the school year to build it.

i asked my shop teacher again about the shackles dom, he said no, also we dont have enough material as the only plate i foudn that would work (some beefy stuff, thicker than what warrior uses) is only enough for one set, and that is barely. plan to start building them tomorow, shouldnt take too long to build them and then i can start on the tire carrier after that.

i already posted the light pics on my roof rack thread that i made so people could find the basket and stuff easier since i had to dig a bit to find ideas for mine before i built it, never too many offroad fab threads though right?
