i have a few quick questions still fairly new to the explorer and im tryin to only buy stuff once!

-Currently only mod is a k&n filter with a swiss cheesed airbox. Ok heres the ?, would it be worth it to switch to say a MAC intake? I know on one of my old cars putting on an intake without getting it tuned would screw with the MAF readings alot and actually hurt performance and mileage. From my reading im pretty sure its not the case with the X but just still just wondering if the increase in power and mileage is worth changing to a intake setup over a drop in setup.

- Ported throttle body? Tryin to keep on a budget thats why stickin with a ported one...Is it worth doin one, every vehicle ive ever owned ive put one on and it helped out quite a bit.

- Bigger MAF housing these are pricey and dont really seem worth it for a simple bolt on truck.

everything else ive got under control an exhaust will go on in the next week or two thanks for any advise

Go with the MAC intake, it definetly makes a difference, no tune needed, our stock pcm's are pretty good. You don't need a bigger MAF, or throttle body if your just doing bolt on stuff. Torque Monster headers are where your money is best spent though.

I am 100% satisfied with my MAC intake. Note, for an intake to reach its full potential, exhaust work is essential ( a cat back system ).

Ported throttle body?

An excellent mod. Take a look at http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=172480

Again, I think this is an excellent mod. I picked up 7.5 RWHP with the addition of a C & L MAF housing. Take a look at http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136883&highlight=maf

And of course a tune will be icing on the cake.

I've got a '99 Eddie Bauer with 5.0. Some of my fave mods. All combined, they've really made my ride much more fun:

-aftermarket exhaust, 2.5" pipes from cats back.

-custom intake using a Volant intake kit for a SOHC Explorer and intake tube for 5.0. Also used Amsoil open element filter (no oiling!)

-custom tuning via SCT XCalibrator2 (highly recommended, OEM shiftpoints etc SUCK).

-ported/polished TB from a guy on eBay that does them

-C&L MAF body (originally on my SOHC as well)

-Explorer Express rear swaybar

-Bilstein shocks.

-Powerslot rotors/Hawk pads

(OK, these last three mods aren't engine mods, but they ROCK!)

A lot of my mods are listed in my registry (in my sig).

One recommended mod I hope to do for sure some day are Torque Monster Headers. Only available for the 5.0. :D

Have fun modding. The 5.0 is a great engine and it lends itself to these mods.

The TB mod is like other similar mods (like MAF, coil packs etc), not a huge difference, but subtle. Not always the most cost effective mods for what you get back. That eBay TB guy is reasonable, cost wise. High quality work. He seems to know his sh*t.

Biggest bang for buck are definitely exhaust AND air intake, then chip/flasher.

ive been looking at some air intakes,
on ebay and others places, but mostly ebay cause its cheap

is it even worth buying it(ebay junk), or spend a little more with like a MAC system and feel a better difference
