bolt wont come off, engine will not turn over

Guys,


I am replacing an idler pulley, and it is so far gone that the belt will not turn anything unless I replace it. I have tried and tried to loosen it, to no avail. Am I tightening it? Which way does it turn? I have used a breaker bar, and am pulling it like crazy. It is the center idler pulley on the top.

The belt tentioner is to be turned clockwise............should this one be as well? I cannot get it to move at all. Anyone?

I believe that all idler pulley bolts are a normal right hand tread. I don't recall ever seeing one that isn't.

Eneurb is correct. All idler pulleys use standard right hand thread bolts. Some tensioners use left hand threads, but no idler pulleys do.

it wont budge. I have been at it for a couple of hours. There is only one bolt, right?

Yep, only one. Did you spray it with some PB Blaster or a similar brand? I replaced mine and it took 1 push of the breaker to loosen it. And you did take the belt off, right?

Make sure you take the belt off first. Get a good socket and breaker bar on it. Use a piece of pipe to make the bar handle longer to get additional leverage. It should come loose.

uh ho, I did not take the belt off first. I wonder if that is why I am having such a hard time. This pulley sits atop the belt.............still take it off?

I think with the belt off and a good soaking with PBblaster, the bolt should come right off. There is no threadlocker on it. The only things holding it on are torque and rust.
