basically im putting a system in my X next month i think, i was planning on using a JL Audio 500.1 monoblock amp, but im not sure about which subs. I was thinking 2 15"s or 3 12"s. Does anyone have any recommendations? (Price is an issue, i'm in highschool) Also, is there any place that makes boxes specially for the explorer that i can just order?

Whats the specs on that amp? Im guessing 500watts RMS, but at what ohm? Another thing, you can do a couple of combinations. If you really want 15s, you can do 3 of them, JL 15W0's, they are rated at 150w so you can get 3 of them, for only 115 per sub. You could even do 4 12s, Kicker Comps, which are about 65 a piece. Both of these combinations will pound pretty good, and the subs are both fairly good. If you wanted single sub set ups you could do a single Alpine Type R for about 170 bucks, or a Kicker 10" or 12" L5, for 175-195, or a JL 15W6, for 235. For dual sub set ups, you could do JL 12W3s or 2 Kicker Comp VRs. Just for the record, im not preaching kicker or JL im just giving you some options because you said you don't want to spend a ton of money. You won't find any boxes specifically for explorers, unless they are thunderforms, which is for a single subs. With these combinations, you would probably be best off to build your own box, which can be done easily for 40 bucks.

you can pick up Orion XTR 12" subs for about $100 at www.soundomain.com

they sound great and hit really hard. a pair of 12s in a good ported or sealed box will be more than enough to piss off your neighbors and impress your friends. and they'll match up perfect to that amp. since it puts out 500 watts rms and the subs each are rated at 250 watts rms.
