The other day when it was snowing I was trying to get my explorer out of the driveway. My tires where spinning and the ABS light came on. Is this just because the tires were spinning and making a false alarm come on? I restarted the car and the light went away. Also durning that same time my car was stuck in 4 wheel low. I did get it to shift out of 4 wheel low but why would it get stuck in there anyway. I need a tranmission fluild change. About how much should I be looking to spend on that? Also what kind of gas mileage you getting in the cold? I got a K&N and Im getting maybe 11MPG city. Is this about normal in the cold? Im at 100,000 and maybe Im just a worry wart but I don't want to be surprized with big car bill.

Thanks,
Joe

Wow i can not really comment at all on the 4wd and Abs issue, but when you say you were stuck in 4low i assume you had put it into 4low to begin with right? For that i believe it could be the shift motor, maybe do a search on it. I have a 4wd sport with the sohc engine, 31 inch tires and 4.10 gears and i seem to be getting about 13.5 mpg in the city which seems kinda a low to me but i only commute to school mostley which is only a 2 mile drive so my truck never warms up. I guess you mpg might seem a little low but if you are using 4wd or 4low alot that might be the reason why.

The light coming on when spinning is not an issue (as long as it goes back out when you shut down the vehicle and re-start it). The sensors are noticing a difference in rotational speed and can't fix it, so they throw a code.

Your vehicle shouldn't go into 4 low automatically, it's not designed to do that. It will automatically apply power to both front and rear axles when it detects slip with the control trac system. If you truly got into 4lo (light on on the dash saying Low range and severely reduced speeds) automatically, then you have issues, and it would have made a major "Crunch" as it changed into low mode.

Well I was stopped when it happened. I am not sure what happened. Usaully my car doesnt even go into 4 wheel low. I think its ok kow though
