This may sound stupid but ill ask any way. What grade of gas should i be using? In all my cars i use 93 but for some reason most trucks recomend 87. My car has the 5.0 in it which is basically the mustang motor so im a little confused on what to use.

Thanks
Dan

Your wasting your money putting 93 octane in your Explorer, the computer is tuned to run on 87. I would use the 87.

It will do ok on regular 87 octane fuel. As a car ages carbon deposits may build up and bump the actual compression a bit. If you get pinging on 87, try 89 octane. Pinging will sound like a can of rocks being shaken under the hood when you accelerate hard, usually with a random rhythm.

Great..thanks for the info! My next question would be...do you know why?

while on the subject..... mid-grade is all that has been put in my ex its entire life. Would it be ok to start using the "cheap stuff"? someone told me it would screw up the computer
