Brakes smoking???

I just got new brake pads and rotors about 300 miles ago and they smoke whenever i brake with some force(im talking billowing). Is this normal???

no.. that's not normal at all. have they been doing it ever since the change? did you replace them or have a shop do it? if shop.. take it back! if you did them, did you spray anything that may have gotten on the rotors or pads? does the braking seem to fine aside from the smoke?

Often brand new brakes will smoke for a short distance. A Verry short distance. at 300 miles there is a problem. Take it back and make them fix it.

yeah i had a shop do it.. they have been doing it ever since but off and on.. its not consistent.. yes the brakes seem fine except for that.. and every once and a while they squeek.

What shop did this and what kind of pads were used? Often metalic pads will squeek. I would still take it back and have them check it out.

higher quality semi metallic pads seem to make more noise then the lower quality ones... - yes, i too don't understand this concept :smoke:

were the rotors new? when they machine them from the factory, they put a coating on them so they dont rust in transit or before they are actually put into service.....

Even with the coating on new rotors that should be gone after 300 miles.

they are brand new rotors..not metallic. Pads arnt metallic either.

Anything on the rotors or pads would be burnt off by the first or second stop. This is a weird case. I would take it back to the shop ASAP and have them take a look.
