Broke down on the side of the road

My ex died while driving and now it won't start. It turns over and fires but acts like it is out of fuel. Mostlhy just sputters. It happened the other day while my sister was driving it and when I went to get her it started right up. Now its dead on me.

Check and see if it's getting any fuel.

turn the key on and listen for the noise from the fuel pump, if it makes no noise that would be it,
if that is not the problem as the pump runs let us know we will look at other things,

Called for a ride home since it is getting dark and had my young niece with me. I will go try to figure it out in the morning. As far as the fuel pump goes should I hear it near the drivers side back seat?

Yes, that's where you should hear the fuel pump. It should run for a second or two after the key is turned to the "ON" position. Check the inertia switch by the passenger kick panel, just in case it tripped, as well as the appropriate fuses. If the pump is running, you'll want to check the fuel pressure.
