Ok..I am attempting to remove my harmonic balancer and of course, was pushing and pulling against it at the same time. ( I have read where a few of you guys encountered the same dilemma. Thanks to to StreetRod2000, I finally got it right, but while tightening down the bolts that hold the removal tool on, I snapped one. Any ideas on how the hell I get the sheared bolt out so I can finish the timing chain job? I did however complete the right side cam chain and components removal and replacement and timed it that side. ( for me, that was quite the accomplishment).

Well, if you can, drill a hole with a bit smaller than the actual bolt. Then, screw another screw/bolt inside it. Weld them a little, so the bolt is stuck inside of the broken threading. Remove.

sounds good, except I don't have a welder. :(

usually when bolt breaks off (as long as it didn't break while tightening it) it doesn't take much effort to back it out. if you can drill a hole in the bolt you can use an easy-out, or sometimes just hammer in the tip of a small screw driver into the hole, then just unscrew it.

bolt extractor

Fortunately, I have limited experience with broken bolts. However, I know that Auto Zone (and probably other auto parts stores) sells a reverse thread bolt extractor kit for bolts from 1/8 to 3/4 inch but they have a square drive end. I think they fit a tap drive. They may sell individual extractors for drill chucks but I would prefer manual control. I think a similar product is Easy Out.

yeah, you can find the bolt extractor sets at most any auto parts or tool store. they work petty well, but they're very brittle and the smaller sizes snap pretty easily. I usually tap them in with a hammer and use a small adjustable wrench on the square end. just don't break it off our you're really screwed.
