Awesome. Many thanks sir

Hey guys,
First post here and I'm curious also.

My wife clipped a hedge yesterday morning, wouldn't you know it I was trimming the hedges that day :(

I ordered the correct OEM heated glass with convex blind spot mirror and just need to replace the cracked glass. The bottom of the bezel popped loose but that should be an easy fix once I get the glass out.

As I understand it, there are two prongs that I need to get to behind the glass. Is this correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

- Blake

P.S. This is my second Explorer after driving a VW for 17 years so any DIY isn't too intimidating :D
Welcome to the Forum.:wavey:
Boy, the wives are sure taking a beating on this issue.:D

LOL! They are. Can't blame my wife too much and feel bad that I didn't cut the hedges earlier. I've done it twice in my Jetta, her the same in the Outback. I have hedges that flank the driveway and since my house is an old craftsman, the driveway is narrow. The sore point is we've had the rig about a week. :(

I didn't give her any grief as I've done it before. Fortunately its an easy fix that'll cost me 1/3 of what it would if I had taken it to the dealer. It's OEM glass that cost me about $99 shipped.

My first Explorer was a 94. Loved that thing but got rid of it due to transmission issues at 102k.

We absolutely love this one and plan to take good care of it.

Woo Hoo!

That diagram was a HUGE help and the mirror glass popped off easily. Fixed the housing, installed new OEM mirror glass and Viola! Good as new!

Thanks fellas :)

Now. To figure out this "very small" EVAC leak....

Hi all,

I've got another case of "wife and the damaged side view mirror", it's the driver side one. I was able to super-glue the two pieces that broke off the plastic frame that goes around the mirror glass. After inspecting the damage it appears that the only other parts that need to be replaced are the mirror glass and the motor assembly. I plan to order them through Levittown Ford, however they list 6 different left side mirror glass parts and 4 motor assemblies, although part numbers for different motor assemblies appears to be the same. I'm looking for help in identifying which exact part numbers I need. I have 2011 Explorer Limited with mirrors that are:
- power adjustable
- power foldable
- heated
- with blind spot
- with puddle lamps
- with memory

Looking at the description of mirror glass parts I suspect that I need BB5Z-17K707-P, regarding the motor assembly I think it should be 6U5Z-17D696-D. I would appreciate any help with getting the right parts.

Thanks,
Mickey

Ps. When I called Levittown and asked for Benny I was told he is responsible for the West coast and can be contacted through the forum. Do you know whether the free shipping offer is still available?

Welcome to the Forum Mickey.:wavey:
You would probably have to check with Benny on the shipping question. I don't know if you have the address to send him a Private Message or not so here it is just in case; http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/private.php?do=newpm&u=196402
Good luck.

Peter

Thanks Peter, I contacted Benny and the free ground shipping offer is still available.

The parts that I listed in my post were the correct ones, so I ordered them. The installation shouldn't be difficult, but I was wondering whether I would need to re-calibrate the mirror after it is installed. Any thoughts on that?

Not sure about the recalibration. If you have any issues, I believe the Manual has something on 'resetting' it. Good luck.

We have a 2016 Explorer Limited. We ( my wife) hit something with the side mirror and it broke the LED marker light and the painted cover popped off and she said she could not find it. The mirror housing and the glass is undamaged and everything works. We Went to Ford and they wanted $1015.00 to replace the mirror, including painting the new cover. What options do I have here? I found a replacement LED light on 1Aauto for the 2011-2015 explorer, does that fit the 2016? Anywhere I can buy just the cover and have it painted? How do I remove the mirror glass without breaking it? If the LED from the 2015 fits, how do I remove the old one?

Sorry for all the questions, much appreciated if anyone could help.

Turn it into your insurance, that is why you have it. But if you have a $1000 deductible then it is a wash.

You could also just go to a auto body shop and see what their estimate would be.

Hi everyone,

The black plastic piece that surrounds the driver's side motorized mirror cracked into a few pieces when I was backing the truck into the garage after a few too many glasses of wine. Not good. Nice way to end Father's Day. The mirror, motor, painted piece, everything is perfect except for that surround black piece. I saw this video on YouTube that shows that popping the mirror off and unscrewing the surround piece is all that I need. Benny at Levittown was a big help and advised me that it's not a piece that is sold separately and that I would need to purchase the entire mirror assembly. It's over $300. Anyone have parts of that assembly for sale maybe from a mirror they recently purchased and cannibalized? I can't see purchasing a new mirror assembly just for that plastic piece. Looking for any advice or ideas.

Thanks.

Ercole

Who says lightening doesn't strike twice?!!!

I'm not too proud to admit that I did the same thing...gulp, again. It kills me having to think I have to purchase the entire driver's side assembly mirror again for that lousy plastic black bezel surround piece that sits just behind the mirror. I still have the entire mirror assembly from 2014 still new in the box with only the black plastic piece missing! Does anyone happen to have that black piece available? I have a brand new driver's side mirror assembly that I could swap (minus that black plastic thingy). It's really not right that Ford can't make this piece available for sale individually.

Any thoughts where I can get this before I have to reach out to Benny?

You could always try auto recyclers (wrecking yards) but I would guess if any had the mirrors they would want to sell the entire item. You could also post in the "Parts and Vehicles Wanted" section of the Forum.

Good afternoon! I recently smashed my passenger side view mirror into my garage. Does anyone have a recommendation on the best/cheapest place to by a replacement?

I have a 2011 Limited with Power Folding mirrors with the little blind spot mirror in the top corner (I do not think they are headed but could be wrong.)

Any help is appreciated!

Hey Matt. Do you have 2 Explorers? You say you have a 2011 but your profile shows a 2012??? In any case the mirrors should be the same. Have you called around any of the 'auto recyclers' in the area?

Peter

This may or may not help. I've got a 2013 with folding, blind spot light, heating.... Part of my housing (not the glass or painted front cover) got broken backing up, all the "shops" said I had to buy a whole new assembly for ~$400 and then pay to have the shell painted gloss black. I found that the mirror from the bone stock model was universal insofar as the core of the mirror, so I ordered the bone stock part and moved all the mechanical parts and mirror from my broken one. $200 later, I had a perfectly good mirror. It just took some looking at part schematics to see that it would work and finding a vendor who accepted returns if I was wrong.

Do all of the models have the blind spot mirror in the upper corner?

I broke the glass on my right side mirror. Mine are heated. I found the replacement glass for $25, but it's not heated. I asked them, because they have heated, but the image shows it without the cut out for the blind spot mirror, and they said they didn't have it heated, with the cut out. I didn't think any Fords came without the blind spot mirror anymore, but I haven't really been looking that closely.

Anyway, here's where I'm getting it, in case someone else needs just the glass.

No. Only those that do not have BLIS.
