After doing my own personal research by asking around, going to shops, getting prices, i want to see what everyone has done on their 4th Gens. What is it im looking for? First off i don't want a bull guard, brush guard, or any thing of the sort. I want a full STEEL bumper replacement bolted directly to the frame (REAR and FRONT.) To answer the question of why, i start off with being rearended sucks. There are no tow points on the front of a 4th gen, no place for additional lighting, and no easy way to mount a winch. Yes i understand that a full bumper replacement can weigh around 300+lbs, so yes my explorer would weigh in at 6-700+ more pounds than factory. I am not concerned with weight, i am concerned with strenght and getting rid of the cheapo look of plastic bumpers. :D

that is one of the worst looking ST's I have ever seen... and I bet they quote something in the $1500+ range...... external metal bumpers are the worst... my 98 ex was rear-ended by a Taurus... yes his front end was destroyed but after I took off the bent down bumper the frame was crushed and I could never tow a trailer again... had to make a 2X4 bumper because cops kept pulling me over.... the truck bounced badly over speed bumps/train tracks and never again would it be able to have a bumper.... all this would have been avoided if I had a rear fascia bumper cover with crush foam insides...

I took this pic undercover so the stupid kid didn't see me.... I didn't take any pics of my damage but the bumper was twisted down 180 degrees wedging the spare tire into the rear end .... the only thing that saved my truck was the spare tire deflected much of the impact... but frame damage is frame damage but I was able to keep driving it to work

you do know there is a HUGE difference between your 98 frame and the 2006-2010 frame right? its like way way way WAY stronger. Also metal bumper will always be strong then plastic/rubber. Yes in a high speed crash its still gonna be screwed up. but in most like 30MPH or less the metal bumper will save any car/truck from worse damage. Factory bumpers are only held to the governments 2.5mph crash and the IIHS standers of 5mph. Also out front bumpers are really crappy for as any protection. just some thin sheet metal and NO protection a foot in on each corner. so if you tap something at 5mph in the corners you will prob have a bent fender and busted light along with a new bumper cover.
