buy my 2nd. gen for me. what am i looking for ?

im looking at geting a 2nd. gen, my first gen's tranny is out right now, and i dont wont my new one to do the same, did ford make a good explorer ? what tranny should i look for ? any thing that would help

Whats up with the exhaust pipe? Got a good amount of miles on it, more than I would want if I was buying another vehicle. Just me though.

Looks very clean. Miles don't bother me too much. I would actually prefer a 5 spd.

Find a good mechanic and have it inspected. It'll cost 25 or 30 bucks which you don't get back, but it's worth the piece of mind.

As for an Automatic, fluid is a very big part of the picture. My truck has 75000 on it and soon I will be changing to Amsoil. synthetic will run cooler and not get as dirty because there is less friction to cause the wear that causes the dirt.
If you don't want to do that consider changing fluid every 30000 or so and get a tranny cooler and possibly an external filter.

That's the way to extend tranny life.

Get a V-8 5.0L engine. They are more reliable than the 6cylinders.

so there is no good Automatics ? they all over heat and are junk ? even read that the 5 speeds are not very good.... this blows, i like the x's, but i need something reliable..

walk away when they refuse--they will turn you around


1700 is still a good deal

AWD is always AWD, no shifter at all--same with 2wd
You can however, install a selectable case-as a mod
