I have an 02 ST 2wd pre-runner in the works. It came with headers. My question is; There is some sort of warm air emission (assuming) bronze in color pipe coming from the left side header and going directly and connecting into a valve or something in the intake area by the throttle body. Its feeding hot air right into the motor. That has to hurt performance! second question; Can I remove it by capping off both ends, and what will be the side effects if any? Will it throw a code? Will it pass smog? Will the truck run better since its not getting hot engine exhaust fed rigth into it? I live in the Southwest, so winter mornings arent much to speak of, at least compared to those cold Chicago winters I grew up with. Lastly, Its rubbing on my newly replaced steering shaft. If I cant remove it due to codes or wont pass smog ect.,, I can bend it slightly out of the way. Any thoughts????? Im all ears, or eyes in this case. Thanks in advance.:salute:

After some thought and clearing my head for a second, (couldnt sleep) and writing my question, Just realized the tube im describing is my EGR tube. I still would like to remove it if I can gain some performance and it doesnt throw and CEL, or codes.

it might throw a code.. but i doubt it. In my 91ex its controlled through vacuum. If yours is controlled electrically than unplugging the connector might throw a code. My truck seemed to be peppier, all i did was remove the tube from the manifold to the intake. I don't think any company makes headers 4 the explorer that comes with egr outlet. Not any I have seen anyways. Probably why they all say for off-road use only heh.

It IS the EGR tube, part of the emission system which should not be removed/disabled/etc. it will NOT give you any performance gain, rather most likely hurt your performance/mileage in the whole scheme of things. Your engine control system is designed around the emission system and Ford has real engineers to create that design. Aside from that, it is VERBOTEN :thumbdwn: to discuss the removal of emission equipment on this site and will get your thread deleted ........... amongst other "unmentionable" occurrences. ;)
