If I wanted to have 2 wd low, would it be safe to engage the t case in low but not lock the hubs? I have not done this yet because I figured most every drive train part would still be moving. The X is a 94 with manual hubs if you did not gather that.

Thanks!

That's exactly how you do it. Just leave the hubs unlocked. It is safe and commonly done.

Great! Is there any extra wear on the t case or front diff? This is something I would only want to use offroad, however would it be safe to use at low speeds on pavement?

The wear on the drivetrain is the same as if you had the hubs locked, except for the binding stresses when turning. You won't have any in 2 Lo. Yes it is safe to use at low speeds on pavement. I used to have a '92 with manual hubs and we used to tow a 26' camper to PSU football games. I'd use 2 Lo to help park the camper. Was a heckuva lot easier on my clutch!
