Im new to the forum with a 02 Mountaineer that I purchased from my mother in law after a mild roll. Not to bad a couple doors and a windshield but upon picking it up it will cranck for about 3 seconds and then nothing, It has a charged battery but am wondering if there is a sensor somewhere that maybe I should be looking at or what. Also the factory panic alarm was going off every once in a while on its own so I disconected the battery and now as soon as I touch the termials the horn starts to go off all the time now. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you know where it is located?

It's located above the passenger side kick panel. You do not need to remove it to reset it.

Whenever the alarm is going off you should be able to disarm it by unlocking the driver's door with the key.

So are you saying the engine will start and stall, or the starter will turn for a few seconds then stop? Sounds like a PATS issue if that is the case.

The starter will turn for a few seconds and then stop, by stop I meen the key is still turned like Im cranking it over but the starter will turn then stop, everytime I try it the starter turns for the same amount of time then theres nothing, turn the key back off and then back on and same deal. If it is this PATS issue how do I solve that, or check it?

Welcome. I dont have an answer for you but I want to say Hi from WI. I like near milwaukee. Actually cedarburg. I am in fond du lac often for work. If you need anything please let me know. I am more than willing to help.

I second fuel cut off switch. should be instructions in the manual

Ok pushed button on top of cut off switch, Truck sounded like it wanted to fire but now nothing. Now the theft light is flashing on and off on the cluster

Sounds like a PATS issue if that is the case.

I'm going to second that idea because of what is quoted below!

Now the theft light is flashing on and off on the cluster

In addition to the theft stuff on the cluster, there should be a little black dome in the center of your dash at the base of your windshield...what is that doing when you turn the key? That should have a red anti-theft system light in it too. When the key is off, it should flash periodically...when the key is turned on with a "good" key and a working PATS system, it should go solid red for 3 seconds IIRC, then turn off. If that light fails to engage correctly, it is usually a designation that you need to look into a PATS issue.

At least all of that is what I know (or think I know) about the systems in these rigs.

I have been out of the loop for a while, search PATS and you will be able to learn all about it in no time. Did the switch click when you pushed it down as though it was resetting? (the fuel pump cut off that is)

No it didnt, It felt more like a "prime" button.
