long travel suspension keeps your tire on the ground = usefull anywhere off road

What is this " long travel kit" you guys are talking about for a Gen III?

gracingmachines shop are gonna built a full long travel setup for us. its costing big money but well worth it. 86explorer86 is dropping his truck off for a test vehicle

custom kit made will run 4 grand

i will be puting new upper control arms and uniballs on

then i will be adding custom fab lower control arms with kings and that will be our long travel

for the rear too? cool! have a link?

I am wondering about long travel when the CV's go through the frame

i cant wait to see it done but if it doesnt ill have my spacers on there with my 33s anyways

the rear will most likely get what i have been talking about for a months. 2 inch C notch to replace the port hole. then custom A arms and longer axles. with my body lift i can actually go with a larger c notch but with the lift i should be fine. if i dont do that way ill prolly lean towards a 3/4 link sas

there is only the link to his shop http://gmachineracing.com/index.html

this will be a one off no pictures yet

my truck will be there for a month total

this will be the first long travel 3rd gen i know of

i am promoting his websight and hes craftmenship so hit him up

I would but I dont own a Gen III :)

I do want to see what he comes up with

I imagine a c notch in the rear frame rail is required to get eh CV out of there and make "long travel" possible

to me LONG travel is like more then 12" at the hub, thats going to be tricky on a Gen III so Ill keep my eyes open!

Also I would double that month estimate, shops are always estimating about HALF
:)

i was thinking prerunner :(... it's just been THAT kind of day...

I understand what you meant, just showing you that long travel is not just for the desert.

Offroad needs traction, traction occurs with tires on the ground, so lifting tires = go no where, so anything off road (even a snowmobile) benefits from long travel

Prerunner is a term used LOOSELY these days :)

you will need wheel spacers to fit 33's

Ok good lol. REALLY felt like an idiot for a minute

As far as the term prerunner... I laugh when I see guys in their Tacoma with the prerunner package... YUCK!

thats not their fault Yota put that name their, it is a Nice Tacoma, but it is not used to prerun off road racing courses, at least not very rough ones!

yep the center caps haha i threw on my old axis lug nuts on the factory center caps. i figured i got rid of all the other mercury emblems so why not the wheels too.

what'd you do for the logo on the grill? Hah I hate my merc logos too.

Also what'd you use to paint your rims I've been lookin into painting mine black too

get a green scratch pad and really scuff the stock ones up. the better you scuff them up the easier they are to paint just make sure you spend alot of the time on the prepping. get krylon fusion paint and just advance auto rim clear coat.

i had my buddy make me a emblem but its still at his house. so right now a circle haha

You guys do realize a long travel kit usually only lifts about 3" and is usually atleast 4" wider per side. For a real long travel truck you want the lowest center of gravity possible a decent track width and right in the 16-18" range of CLEAN travel.

for 16 inches of travel our trucks will have to be lifted around 5 inches so. you know the low frame issue. its gonna be a long travel setup compared to the stock suspension. im looking for about 12-14 inches travel so more of a mid travel setup if you try to compare it to a ranger or alike
