i have forscan and enabled the DRL settings ..... drl by autolamps initial value, drl by autolamps personal 1,2,3 and 4, and drl by autolamps vehicle. The DRLs still do not come on and I need them to work to Register my vehicle for insurance.

You need to disable the Police Dark mode in the BCM.

Thank you very much. Will try that tomorrow and post the result. 👍

Welcome to the Forum.

Peter
Police dark car - drl, police dark car mode, and all silent dark modes I had already disabled

Is there another spot to disable dark car mode other than bdycm

Thanks Peter, but still can’t find a way to turn them on.

Here is the diagram for the headlamps. The Gray/Blue wire gets its power from the BCM, which powers the DRL.

I believe you have to enable DRL in the instrument cluster as well when using ForScan. It been awhile since I messed with enabling and disabling DRL, but I think I had to make changes in the cluster as well.

I thought I might look at DRL and see if they just unplugged them. Looks like a bulb plug end with no wires attached but no loose wires to be seen. Watched videos of headlamps been taken out and only see main plug being disconnected. So don’t know if normal explorers have a plug to the top of the headlamp for the led strip. Also don’t know if this strip comes on other than as DRLs because mine doesn’t come on at any time.

I looked at a civilian explorer of the same year and found that there is no wires to the top led strip, just the wiring of the main connector to the headlight housing module. Therefor I think I need assistance with all the things I have to change in Forscan to have DRL on a PIU.

If you turn the lights on to the first level, do the amber lights light up?

I think that’s your problem. The PIU’s DRL is not in the light strip above the headlight, it’s in the low beam bulb. The PIU’s don’t have the LEDs in that strip above, it’s empty. The civilian models do. It was the same way in the 16-19 model.

I turned on the DRL control to show in the vehicle settings now. I turned the signals and low beams to run as DRLs now and the DRLs enabled. I have the DRLs checked in the vehicle settings and the ambers turn on now as DRLs. The problem now is the DRLs stay on even after i leave the car. The marker lights turn off after 20sec but the amber DRLs stay on. This all happens with the switch in the auto position. The DRLs turn off only if i shut them off in the vehicle settings or turn the headlight switch to off. Any suggestions on how to have the amber DRLs turn off after shutting the vehicle off.

I did some playing around with the DRL settings in ForScan today
There are different modes you can enable for DRL including the "Fixed DRL" which is the Amber and DRL which are low beams.

I have unfortunately have dark car enabled, but there is DRL option in the vehicle menu.
It turns on just the head lights(low beam?)
Wednesday I'm going to try downloading the Forscan programming if anyone needs to compare notes.
I think I'd rather have the yellows instead of low beams...

This might be the power timer setting.
After you shut the car off there is an auto shutoff timer that keeps the internal accessories active for the entire time. Mine was originally set to 1 hour, but I changed it to 5 mins.
You could set it lower, like 30 seconds and see if that's what is controlling the lights.

^^ That must be unique to the PIU.

Peter
