Cargo area, 3rd row seat back cracks.

Mine are broken just like that. 2015 Explorer. Not even sure what happened. I haul cases of water, etc in the back of mine but nothing that should have broke them.
Welcome to the Forum.
I think that it depends at times on where the weight is centered. I carried my 4 wheels back there when going to the dealer to do the Winter setup swap and had no issues. FYI, the member that you quoted hasn't been seen here since April 2014.

I had the same issue with my 2014 Explorer after my teenage daughter was in the opposite seat in the 3rd row and climbed over that same spot to get out. I also have carried a lot of heavy loads with no issues until she put a knee right in that same spot. After a few years of dealing with the crack I found the link below for a fix. It is easy from the middle row to reach under the crack and slip the connector off to flip that section over. I tried to glue it with Liquid Nail general adhesive but it did not hold so I am off to Home Depot to find a better glue. Choosing glue over a fiberglass patch. When you do flip over the section with th crack you will see the crack is right at the end of the plastic brace.

I haul people and their luggage to and from the airport. I dont know when or how it happened, but mine broke too. A couple of angle irons (actually aluminum) from home depot, on the underside. drill 4 holes, round head bolts, nuts and washers, and this is what you get.. I cover the whole back with a rubber backed mat from home depot

Sorry about the photo quality, but its dark and raining tonight

The fist pic is the underside of the panel, flipped back to show the underside
the second has the panel back in place showing the round head bolts, and the big fender washers i used

I think it looks ok and luggage will slide over the bolt heads without scratching the luggage, but I cover the whole area with a floor mat
Maybe not as pretty as it could be... , but it gets the job done 340000 miles and still going strong

I learned my "repair skills" such as they are when I owned and managed Baltimore slum houses. 45 years ago. My wife still reminds me whenever I get into a project on our home...That Im not in Baltimore any more. She wont let me touch her car.
