Hey, look in the console and see if there's a plug. You need to take the black sleeve in the console out in order to see it. The plug is on the left side of the console toward the front. If you don't see a plug, you need to get a wiring harness from an Explorer with the changer plug from the junkyard. Good luck!

Why would i need to look in the console? the changer is in the dash board its a 6 disc in dash cd player

please don't double post, I'm deleting your other thread and putting this in the audio forum.

Please someone help me. If your hookups for your old cd player don't match your new one does that mean that i won't work?

Do you know what year the unit was out of originally? I'm assuming it is a stock Ford unit? Hmmmm. If the harnesses don't match you can probably rig it up with some fancy splicing work with a few shop manuals.

The guy told me that it fits 98-2001. The hook ups for mine is nothing like what the new one needs. This upsets me because i can't have any indash changer now. I have never wierd anything. GREAT!

Chill dude, you can probably make it work. If it comes down to it, you can take it to an audio installer and have them do it. Just because the harnesses don't match doesn't mean it won't work. I'm sure your 98 has all the wires necessary running there for it to work, you'll just need to have them spliced from the old harness into a new harness that you'll have to get.

Sorry i have been trying to get this for awhile now. Where could i go to get a new harness? do you think it will cost alot to have a audio place fix it?

Dunno if you'll have to get the HU end of the harness from Ford or if an audio place will have it. Depends on the installer on how much they'd charge for the install, especially since you didn't buy the HU from them. Chain stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, Mobile One, etc tend to have better warranties, but their prices are usually higher than a local stereo shop. I'd just cruise by a few places, talk directly to the guys in the back, and see if they can do it and how much.

Oh, I can tell you now that trying the phone, or not talking directly with the installers is a waste of time.

thanks for the info, i will try some local places i hope i didn't pay $300 for nothing

Well, instead of doing that with my $300 of HU money I got an MP3 unit. Also, aren't there some aftermarket indash changers out there that would sound better than the Ford unit? You can still return this to the seller since the harnesses don't match.

question

I have been trying to get a in dash 6 disc player for my car. I found one that is out of a 2001 and i have a 1998. I noticed acouple of differences, first the cd player doesn't have any holes to use the tools to get it out. Also at the bottom of the cd player there are metal tabs will this fit in my car without having to make changes?

i just looked into getting a cd changer you need a special ford lead you cant just hook it up

if ya dont have any luck wif it ya can send it to me .also the only one that is compatible is alpine

The plugs should be the same on '98 and '01. but you bought a flange mount radio. it has no spring clips. If the CD-6 has a DSP button in the top right corner then it is a audiophile unit no bass to four speakers and drive a sub, that's the little square plug.

You shoud of had a dual media(CD/CASS) or was it just a tape player?

well i sold it probably 4 or 5 months ago. but i still wish it would have worked. My 98 had a single cd and the in dash 6 did play and it had a spring it wasn't flange mounted. but the guys at the local car audio place couldn't get any bass out of it and i just got done putting a MTX sub in the back with a amp, so i told them whats the point of having all that and no bass. i wish there was a way to get it to work because i would by another one if there was.
