Update: I had it in the shop, asked them to tell me why the AC didn't work. They put in a couple cans of freon, the oil and dye, and an hour of diagnostic time - voila! I have AC! BUT they figure it has a vacuum control in the dash that doesn't let the cool air come out the vents facing the driver, and would have to take apart the dash to get at it. The cool air does come out the defrost area, and very strongly out of the back console! Very weak airflow from the vents facing the driver and passenger. I asked if he thought it was the blend door, he said no, and referenced vacuum stuff in the dash. So I plan on doing that myself, does anyone know where you'd find the info on what's in there vacuum wise? (I'm so happy the AC components actually work, was dreading having to buy those parts!)That red/blue knob basically controls the blend door actuator.
With AC, start with the basics. Pop the hood, turn knob to full cold and MAX AC. Does the AC compressor click on and start spinning? Does it stay on for more than a few seconds, or does it constantly cycle on and off every 3ish seconds?
If it doesn’t kick on at all, or if the compressor short cycles, you gotta start there.
Now to install the idler pulley & tensioner, and the hood release cable. Oh, and find a switch for the driver's seat back and forth, had asked the shop to see if they could get the seat to move. They did, just once, and the switch gave out. Progress!
