was wondering if there is any way to pre-soak them with penitrating oil (like W-D), and is it safe to do such a thing? I'm just trying to make the job a little easyer. I did hear somebody say that its a good idea to shoot air around the plug to get rid of any debri.

thanks in advance for any info.

Spark Plug Lube

It is always a good idea to clean out the threaded hole in the cylinder head before installing new spark plugs. As far as a penetrating oil that really wouldn't do you any good that I know of. Any time you buy spark plugs Auto Zone will try to sell you a 99 cent package of spark plug anti-sieze. It is a grafite grease to put on the threads before installing the new spark plug. It is a really in-expensive and great idea. Most other major parts stores should have a similar product as well.

all i know is that i had a hell of a time changing mine! there is a pipe on the 95 model that is right infront where i needed to put the socket and/or the extender!

next time i'll pay to get it done seeing it took me 2hrs to get that done w/ changing the wires as well.

Heh, you ain't alone. Took me 3 hours on my 97 OHV! My wires are routed under the intake manifold. Thanks Ford.

Anyway, I would not put penetrating oil on them. If your having trouble busting them loose, start the engine for a few minutes and let it get warm, NOT HOT, and then remove them. Also, have a floorjack handy. You might need to jack it up and go through the wheel wells. It's doable to get them all from the top, it's just a major PITA.

I got

I got the 2000 4.0 SOHC. Didn't look like it would be to bad to me. Though I haven't really looked and I haven't done mine yet. Any reccomendation on what kind of spark plug to get? I want something good but not something that is going to blow a hole in the top of my pistons.

yeah i'll be paying the 60 bucks or so to have mine done for me, it is not worth broken knuckles and that much work i'll just pay

I'd get Motorcraft Double Platinum plugs. These engines love those plugs. Get em' at Autozone, they are about $4/plug.

Just look out for that #4 plug. I have the OHV, and there is a hose right in front of it. i put the socket on the plug, then i put an extension on to the socket, underneath the hose and it worked. wear gloves if you have them.

i agree with BRADE...mine took a couple of hours...and routing under the intake manifold...what a PITA!!!
