Ok, so I'm buying this lift, but the cheapest any of the off-road stores around here has it is $852 for the standard kit, with shocks, brake lines, bushings, and sway bar brackets. Does anyone know of someplace that sells it at a better price? The reason I ask is because I sware I have seen some places in California selling it cheaper.

Thanks,
Mat

try...

Rocky Mountain Suspensions (http://www.rockymountainsusp.com)

They are pretty good pricing - not sure if it's the cheapest..

I got mine from Superlift just a few weeks back. It was only for a 4" though. It ran $749 + $49 for shipping. It included the brackets, shocks, springs, new leafs, and all the bushings, but no brake lines(which I wish I would have gotten). Sounds like the price for yours is in the ballpark.

Tyres

Call 800-321-7123 or visit their site at: http://www.tyres1.com
Superlift at $599.00 including shocks. Good price, I think.

Hmmm... well Rocky Mountain Supension is slightly cheaper, but becomes too expensive when you factor in shipping.

That price on ordering from Superlift increase $150 when you add the brakes lines, and then more for shipping.

Tyres International is the best so far, with a kit total of $599 + $110 for brake lines. Since they are in Ohio though, shipping will be $100.

I don't know, I'm still looking around, and I'm having ok luck. I saw a Skyjacker kit and I'm kind of lookin at that now too. I'm not trying to go the cheap way with this lift, but I figured if I can save myself a few bucks, I should try.

Brake lines.

You can probably save some $$$ and check for brake lines at your local automotive parts store. Do the once from Skyjacker come all bent ready to install or do you have to fit them yourself? or are you talking about the brake hoses? See, if you really need those lines you can probably get them cheaper at the local place. I've seen some lines in different lengths at a local place and they weren't that expensive.

On the other hand, isn't it ironic that a 5.5" lift is actually cheaper then 4"???? I would prefer to go 4" but in this case, what the heck?? I'll go 5.5". Let me know when you get one since I'm going at it later this year.

Later,

I know what you mean Andre. I was going to get the 5.5", but my wife damn-near had a cow with just the 4" lift(though more expensive than the 5.5"). "I can't get in,..I can get in,...blah, blah, blah",...cry me a river! (Hope she doesn't read this...haha..) :D

Andre,
Thanks for the suggestion on the Brakelines, but I think I will stick with the Superlift ones no matter which lift I get, just because its easier that way and since I've heard the Superlift ones are the best.

The jury is still out on which lift I am going to buy, but I can't really get much info on the weekend, since everyone is closed.

Jeff,
So the wife didn't like it when you installed the 4" lift, even though it was more expensive? Man, after I do the 5.5" lift, I'll have between 7.5-8" of lift. Good thing I'm not married yet :) HEY! Just get a 2" body lift, then your Explorer really will be high, and you can justify buying some nerf bars!

Wifes.....

as far as wifes go I have to tell you this. I have a wife. My Explorer is her daily driver cause I have another car I drive to work. So you know probably how she feels when I modify the truck. She complains but she still calls it "my Explorer". I even sugested buying another one just for me so I can do whatever I want with it but she just said that we don't need another Explorer. Go figure. She acceptes the fact that I midified the truck to make it trail worthy. She accepts the fact that I take it off-road and that it could get damaged sometimes like it did last time. Now, I still get cries from her once in a while but to be honest I think she has to do it. It's a woman thing you know. She's got to complain and you have to listen. Understanding is a major factor. If a woman doesn't accept you the way you are and doesn't accept things you do, then............. it's not the right one!!!! If you don't take care of you wife's needs then you're not a good husband. etc, etc......

"Stand by Yor man........."

Mayby we should open special forum here on the list for our wifes/girlfriends? Like Explorer owner wife's support forum?

What do you think?

I think the difference between the standard kit and the superrunner kit is normally $250. So basically the cheapest I found the superrunner kit was $1100, and if you subtract $100 for the shocks it is still $1000. *ouch* That's why I am just doing drop down brackets for the time being and then I'm going to weld my own radius arms with heim joints for major flexibility, and better steering geometry.

Wifes and lift kit's

I am wanting the 5.5 superlift too and the wife said she thought it was a little extreme but I will get her talked into it sooner or later she loves going off the beaten path as much as I do expecially if it leads to an old ghost town or something neat to see our favorite place is Crystal City Colorado. But it is not that extreme of a ride.

one of the reasons that the 5.5" lift is cheaper (i think)
is because it is a spring over axle conversion. You would use your stock rear springs for that one, and it gives you all new springs for the 4" kit. thats what i've heard anyway.....

Where were you shipping that to from Rocky Mountain that it would be more expensive? Would it be less than $100 S/H to NY?

Thanks..

Andre,
Why not take "your" explorer to work and let her drive the car? (Less complaints perhaps.) Mine has her own car, and I drive the explorer to work. I haven't done anything to lift it yet but so far she's been cool with the money sunk into it - KKM kit, tires, plugs/wires. She knows my frustration with idiot drivers and didn't even question my HELLA horns purchase. heh Be seen and HEARD if need be. ;)
The spouse's support forum is amusing but we really don't want them to know how much we CAN do to the trucks or how much these things co$t. ;) Unless it was hosted elsewhere. heh
Good luck with the marriage. Keep her engine purring and perhaps she won't be as quick to judge the other you're modifying in the garage. ;)

No, she knows how it is and never ever that she complained that I work on cars too much. She is the kind of women that really appreciates when I spend some time at home whether working on cars, working on our home or just bumming around. Not having me there is what bothers her. I drive my Explorer to work once in a while. This baby has over 91k miles on it and my daily commute to and from work would kill it instantly. I drive 32 miles each way. That's to my office alone. Driving around with clients adds a lot more to that. I'm in Real Estate so you probably know how all this works. She would like to keep the Explorer at home since she likes the space and that she can load the kids up and all the necessary "equipment" that goes with them and our dog if the need comes and go anywhere she wants. Fitting all this in a compact Bimmer would be a problem. Another thing is she claims that she would really prefer the Taurus Wagon or Focus Wagon to drive around rather then the Bimmer. Claims that my passion for German automotive should be limited only to our 1963 VW Bus that we own and that Bimmer costs way too much anyway. She's right. I'm just waiting for the Escape to show up in the showrooms so I can my 328i and trade it in, heh, heh. She will love the smaller go anywhere thingy anyway.

Thanks for your input on this guys.
It looks like we veered off the main topic significantly.

Later,

I ordered the lift from my local 4 by store after all, since it I wouldn't have saved very much money oredering it elsewhere due to shipping. I think it will be $850 after everything(shocks, brake lines, tax).

Thanks for the help everyone.

didja end up going with the super runner?

I just purchased the 5.5" from rockymountainsuspension.... Took me half of the day to get past a busy signal, but other than that the sales guy was really nice... Ended up going with the Standard Kit. I feel that right now I won't be doing enough serious offroading to warrent the extra money spent. Also there are alot of other little things that the $350 or so more would have cost me. I didn't get shocks with the kit since they don't carry Rancho, the sales guy put the price down to $500 even and then with S/H took it up to $555. Not bad I think. I'm working on http://www.off-roading.com to swap the RS9000's that are on the way to me...ordered before I had thought about the 5.5" lift. I'd like to do a swap for the correct length ones...but who knows if they will do that. Have to wait and see.

Thanks..

Mat R-what are you getting for $850? My local shop-for the 5.5" Superruner Kit; Rear Pitman Arm's, swaybar, drop down brackets, extended radius arms, front coil springs, free stainless steel brake lines, and the steering stabalizer for: $1050. And the RS 9000's are 4 for $204. The Labor cost to do <all> the above= $450. Is this a good deal?
