When we picked up our 98 Explorer SOHC, 164,000 km, from the dealer on Friday, they told us that during the smog test, the check engine light was on. They traced it to an oxygen censor and replaced it. Later that day, the light came on again. I disconnected the batery to reset the computer, and it never came on for the next three days. I finally got a chance to give the truck a good look at, even though it is dang cold out, and discovered that the air filter was well past it's life. Went out and bought a K & N filter ( rectangular ) and put it in. Drove around for about 10 km or so, and when pulling back into the driveway, the Check engine light came on again.
Could this be from the different type, and non clogged air filter playing games with the censors? or should I take it back where I got it and have them hook it up and test?
Thanks
Paul
