Had the truck back into the Ford dealer trying to figure this out. They said the codes can not be read and reseting them did not help. They have left me with no ideas. So if nobody can get the codes how am I suppose to fix the problem. This is pissing me off.

Good morning... It would appear that the computer itself needs to be evaluated for defects. I'm not familiar enough with cars to tell you anything more, but if you haven't checked the code maker, I'd go there. Good luck.

I agree

If the paper clip trick (self diagnosis, just like 91-94, 95 is similar) doesnt work then I would first check that the computer diagnosis is working by getting an all clear code (11 I believe)

If there are no codes in memory you should still be getting a pass code

If no codes are present at all then the computer is suspect OR the wiring to the diagnostics port and CEL itself.

Ford can test the computer functions
Your dealer sounds skeptical to me they should have told you all of this

are there any other local dealers? They may have a better service department

i have a 97ohc explorer with po455 long engine leak code . runs fine . what will clear the code

You can clear the code with a scanner, however, that will not resolve the problem.

what will resolve the problem . will installing a purge valve solve the problem

Ok so the problem is 100% fixed. Ended up being a cracked sensor on the back of the engine and a line going into the EGR that had a hole in it. Also for the ABS it was also a sensor problem. All is good now woohoo

Who figured it out?

Hey all. I have a 1995 explorer with a check engine light on. I had it into the Ford dealership and they said they were unable to read the codes, sent me on my way with no info as to what the problem could be or even what to possibly check. It doesn't always come on right away sometimes it can take 5-10mins driving time before it'll come on. There doesn't seem to be any driving problem, no hesitations nothing and drives perfectly fine. I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on things to check or what the problem might possibly be.

Thanks

Was it Ford that figured it out? Did they charge you for the first test and/or the second?

Yes Ford figured it out. They didn't charge for the first or second test. Just parts.

I have the same problem on my 92. The check engine light will come on after a few minutes of driving. It drives fine but that light isannoying and bright at night. Could a crack in the exhaust pipe and no muffler be causing the problem?

Maybe due to not enough back pressure or something I could see it maybe causing a problem.
