I own a 1994 Explorer and when the engine is cold and has been sitting for a couple of hours, the oil light comes on when I start it up, but when the engine warms up, I turn the car off and then turn it back on, the oil light goes away. I checked the oil and the oil level is normal. What could the problem be?

Try manually checking the pressure where your sending unit is. I had one go bad years ago. The gauge pressure would jump all over the place and then slowly drop off. Checked it manually and found it was fine. Replaced the sending unit and I was good as new.

The oil light is a level switch in the side of the oil pan. Mine comes on when I get 1 quart low.

Oil expands as it heats up
