I got my X with the full intent of not towing a damn thing. However my buddy had a boat roughly 4k lbs. So Like a good friend I went out and purchased a receiver and ball for the boat. Figuring whats 500lbs over the rated limit for 2 miles on nice flat florida roads. Well class two hitches blow. Any way of getting a class 3/4 on there? Either something that piggy backs or can I cut out the class 2 and re-weld in the 3/4? Never had to tow but I want to b safe. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if you have an 07, with a class 2, only thing you can do is add a class 3 hitch.

the hitch with on 4th gen ex is welded to the chassis, and actually part of it.

only that will work is add a class 3 hitch.

and probably cheaper to just rent a f150 or something with a hitch.

Ford have a repair class 3/4 hitch where the original is damaged (accident or such). The kit comes with templates to drill holes in the frame after the old hitch is cut off near the frame rails. The replacement hitch bolts to the frame rails.

Good luck.

eTrailer.com has a few piggy-back ones the go right below the factory one.

Might want to verify you have the aux tran cooler in front of your radiator if towing heavier weight.

My 4.6 has the smaller (stupid) factory hitch , but it also has a factory aux trans cooler... wtf? Makes no sense.

A couple people on the Sport Trac board have had the Class II cut off the crossmember and a Class III welded on, instead of replacing the whole crossmember.

I saw an Ex with one of those. It hangs kinda low, but it is what it is.

They all have an aux trans cooler.

Awesome! thanks everybody. I think I am going to go and cut out the old class two and have a class 3/4 welded in its place. THere is a u pull about an hour north of me ill head up there sometime this week or next and see if I can find anything.

My son's 2007 EB V8 with class 3/4 trailer hitch and tow package does not have the oil to air auxiliary trans oil cooler. It just has the trans oil cooler in the bottom of the coolant radiator. No problem so far with towing his 4,400 lb tandem trailer.

Any one actually installed any of the Class 3 eTrailer Hitches below the 1 1/4 OEM. Does it change any appearances and it is safe to tow a 4,000 boat?

not mine, . . but this is one of them.

what exactly blows about it. you were over the limit of your tow capacity. Doesnt matter whey kind of hitch you have on, you still will have a problem towing.
