i have a k&n gen2 FIPK and i was wondering what the cleaning interval on it should be. the instructions aren't very specific... probably because it varies with driving conditions. i'm just looking for a good average so i can plan accordingly. i have less than 2000 miles on my filter right now so i don't think there is any rush. i also figure that brand (k&n, kkm, volant, mac,...) doesn't matter because most conical filters are roughly the same.

so how often do you all clean your filters? every 3k-5k? with every oil change? or maybe you regularly clean it once or twice a year irrespective of driving conditions and distance traveled?

thanx for the help,

I clean mine every 3 months.

really?! that seems a bit excessive to me. about how much do you drive in those 3 months?

EDIT: where is everyone else? i know there are a lot more people out there with conical filters... i must insist that every one of you respond, lest you incur my great and terrible wrath :fire:

everything ive read says 50,000-100,000 miles...thats what k&n says at least

As do I. . .but at 3 months mines completly caked w/ dirt. (I actually have an 'offroad' one but I sometimes forget to swap it out  ) And honestly, I don't feel enough difference between caked and freshly cleaned & oiled, so I just knock it on the ground to get the loose stuff off. :o

I clean and re-oil mine often because I want the maximum mileage possible from my truck.

oh yeah... i forgot you've got the 30mpg going for ya. alright, well 50k seems a bit much to me. i'm thinking once a year should do it. particulary since i don't drive in a very dusty environment (except when i mean to).

thanx for the help so far guys, keep it comin.

All the open intake sources state 30-50 K miles dependant on driving conditions, all also state the filter will actually be more effictive when slightly grungy.
Al how often do you clean your MAF,I would think with your service intervals on the filter it would be often

Never.

Thats cool
With getting a consistant 30 MPG in your EX, you gotta be doing all the right things.

I'm in not too dusty an area so once a year seems to work fine. Since I'm doing three veh.s w/K&N any more often would be a pain.
