Seems kind of pointless to some degree, but there's nothing I hate more than detailing my car all day only to take it out in the sunshine and see dirty, brown wheel wells in my explorer's reflection. Anyone have any suggestions for getting your wheel wells to a nice black color? Furthest I've gone is scrubbing them with a fender brush and car wash liquid but that doesn't seem to work.

I just painted mine! Used Rustolium. Use matt finish. Looks like new!

Just a thought.

Spray them with tire cleaner/shine.

Looks good.....

Its in no way a pointless thread, I deal with that problem all the time. Best way I know of is to scrub them out as good as you can and let them dry good, then I just paint them with a flat black spray paint, but be careful not to get any on your truck's paint!

Thanks for the suggestions, went ahead and tried the tire cleaner/shine idea and it looks pretty good. Going to be looking around for chassis black too.

Some people have recomended Simple Green before. I've never used it before since my inner fenders would just get dirty the next time i drove it (gotta love the mud).

Make sure you hit it with a good degreaser and brush first...tire shine over dirty wheel wells looks terrible.

Al: I have used it on everything but the wheel wells...it is a little too $$ for me to be spraying it up in the wheelwells, I just use good ole cheap armor all.

I just use the preasure washer we have for the farm equipment... jus tgotta lower the preasure...

On the plastic ones up front I use tire foam and it works very well if it is clean to begin with.
There is no plastic on the rear wheel houses so there I use simple green diluted 50%

agree, tire foam works nicely

i guess i couldn't care less about what the wheel wells look like

I do the same thing and just give it a good scrub and then spray with the tire shine. Really does make a world of a difference and makes the rims and tires stand out more.

Try using "Bleach White" or some sort of white wall cleaner. Just spray on, let sit a while and then hose off.

I just used a pressure washer to clean, once dry, I hit it with some spray can truck bed coating, looked great.

I think the simplest thing to do is buy a cheap can of shiney black spray paint. Wipe it down (or not) real quick and hit it w/ the spray paint. Then just hit it up once a month or so. I would NOT go w/ the tire shine.. that will come off in a week. I spray painted my rear wheel wells over thanksgiving, and they are still pretty glossy.

i pressure washed mine..then went over them with heavy coat's of high glss black rustolium..look brand new

Well thats great and all but when I have a customers car outside and there is even the slightest hint of wind I cant spray paint without the threat of getting overspray somewhere. Armor All can be put on a rag and wiped on if it is windy.

that's why i do it in the garage..with vent..and with the fenter's taped off and the rim's/tires off..does a much better job then just shining them up
