I was talking to a guy at Circuit City and he said that it was possible to make your own clear corner light instead of spending $30+ dollars on a new set. He said sumthin about using a dremel and drilling out the amber piece. I just wanted to know if anyone has heard of this or attempted it and if it would work? Also how exactly would you go about doin it? Thanx

my friend did this mod for his 02 audi a4. except i dont think anyone has successfuly done this mod. First, you need a dremel, which costs more than 30 i believe. Then you have to heat up the corners, then dremel it out, then put it back together. itz really a pain in the @ss. I think itz just one of those mods where you just spend the 30 and get it shipped to your door already done.

Well i already have a dremel but how exactly do you go about doing it? What do you need to heat? Thanx

It is very simple to do on other cars but very difficult to do on an Explorer turn signal.

Don't be a cheapass, just buy a new set! It's not worth the trouble, TRUST ME.

Yeah until they turn yellow on you like mine.. stocks are back in :( I'm trying to get some shipped from Australia hehe

circuit city?

Do u always get your automotive advice from the friendly circuit city employees?

I dont often go to an electronics store for advice on my car heheh. j/p

But yeah. as the others have said.. - on the xplorer its not as easy as just drillin it out.. People have tried and just ended up messing up the entire corner assembly.

just fork out the 30 bucks and be done with it.

i used a dremel on the yellow for my accord, but that was only b/c at the time they didn't make clear corners for it. take the given advise, just buy them. were lucky b/c they are not that expensive...$30 big deal, it's worth your time alone to just buy them. good luck.

Buy the $30 set and then experiment on your stock one. If you successfully accomplished what you're looking for then, you got two pairs. :)

what is the name of the actual manufacturer of the clear turn signals for a gen. 1? i tried to buy them from a store instead off the internet and the guy said he didn't know what company made them and he said that the company they go through only makes the corners not the signals.

Maybe

IT might actually be cheaper to buy them online than through a local dealer. Because they are gonna wanna make some money off of it also. So the price they bounce it up to will probably be more than what you would normally pay for shipping. You can even find them on Ebay sometimes and pay even less. Just my .02.

grr mine are turning yellow

I did the dremel mod, and it turned out better than you'd think... I was really skeptical about it at first. and my mom suggested i just cut out right behind the orange and then get the orange reflector out.....it turned out pretty good, they look like i spent a helluva lot on shipping up here to AK - you can't tell what i did unless you really look at it

that looks pretty good actually. but what does it look like up close? can you tell you cut it up close?

You're going to have to tell us exactly how you did this. I'm sick and tired of buying these cheap manufactured clear corners that turn yellow after 3 months. I know the stock lenses are MUCH better quality.

Did you just cut a hole near the reflector and pull it out? Was it difficult to pull out or did it come out easy?

Yeah you can see the line there, where I cut, but it's not noticable...My friend has a nice expedition and he paid a lot for his corners; I showed him and he was suprised I did them myself...but when you look close you can tell they were stock.

I took out the lens, and cut out with the dremel a nice thin line right behind the reflector (you can see the shape in the newest pic on my car domain page) and then i had to break out the reflector.
