Ok I need some advice before noon tomorrow...
I have a 91 X and its currently in the shop getting a new motor and clutch. I have all new clutch parts except for the slave cylinder. The mechanic has the engine out and inspected the slave and said its not leaking, but wanted to know if I wanted to replace it anyway while he has it apart. The truck has about 100K miles and as far as I know everything is original.
I always believe in the theory that you shouldn't try to fix what isn't broken. Although I would essentially be getting free labor to have him replace it now while its apart. I have had prior issues including the truck not wanting to shift into first or rev when stopped. Also every once in a while it would really grind going into third or fourth. The clutch pedal has always felt fine though and the fluid was always good.
The mechanic told me that sometimes when you replace them they are more likely to go bad than the original.
What are you guys thoughts? I need to make a decision before tomorrow when he starts putting it back together
