Has anyone coated the floor area of the rear storage compartment with Rhinocoat ( or similar product ). I carry scuba tanks there ans sometimes they are wet when loaded. I want to prevent any rust problems.

Thoughts?

my suggestion is to get one of those removable Husky liners or a similar product. You know, those shallow trays that go above the carpet and are removable.

I had one and its very difficult to slide the tanks out the back with it in place.

What works well for me in my truck is one of the Rubbermaid liners (they have a 2" lip all the way around), with a layer of carpet in it so I can slide stuff. We have a carpet manufacturer in our area that makes the grey carpet for the Ford Focus, and it's almost a dead match for my X's carpet.

Thanks for the ideas guys... but I need to have a flat surface.

The OEM carpeted surface works great. I just need to protect the area under the carpet.

The lip on the rubbermaid folds flat pretty easy. Another possibility would be to buy a sheet of aluminum from a recycling center or scrap yard, and slide it under your carpet.

Thanks again, however, water finds a way to get past most barriers, thats why I want or do I, to treat the area with Rhinocoat.

Herculiner or Rhinoliner should work fine. Just make sure you scuff the surface up so it sticks well. If you do that, I would take all the plastic out of the back first and run it up onto the sides of the fenderwells a little for waterproofing.

If you di Hrec or Rhino or whatever your X please let me know how it turns out I have thought of doing this but was never sure.

Anybody know jow difficult it is and/or the procedure for removing the factory carpeted covering?

Thanks....

To remove the carpet is easy. You just lift it out. Pull it out of wherever its hooked under and wala! Remove the seats and anything else holding it down. Pretty simple....

Well, its not easy for me to get out. I still havn't figuered out how to remove it.

Help, please.....

To take the carpet out of the rear, first you have to remove the plastic sill at the rear of the truck. Some models have screws across it, and others have sills that just snap in. On my '92, I also had to remove the tie downs (they were screwed through the carpet. Some were, some weren't) That will free up the carpet from the hatch to the rear seats. To get it out from under the plastic side panels, Ryan is right, you just pull it up. To get it out from under the rear seats, you will have to remove the rear seats, as they are bolted through the carpet.
